Enjoying More for Less

So I looked up some statistics online: Marin county(where I live) is one of the most expensive places to live in the United States...believe me, I'm not bragging. Your average 3 bedroom/2 bath home is a steal at $900,000. I say steal, because I haven't seen any under a million in this seaside paradise. Even in this so-called "bad" economy, life in Marin county goes on-- multi-million dollar business as usual. All of this makes for very interesting planning when it comes to Enrichment activities.

This time we decided to help the sisters "Enjoy More for Less" and give them ideas about how to live in Marin county, enjoy yourself, and not break the bank. We prepared an activity with rotating classes.

We started out with a group discussion and demonstration about growing vegetables in containers, because no one has room for gardens out here.

Sister Batt, a long-time resident, led a discussion on all the recreational activities for minimal to no cost available in the area.

Sister Neff, was very involved in her calling to go shopping! She researched how to shop consignment/discount stores in order to save money on high-quality items.
Sister Amaro is the resident event planner and gave everyone great ideas for fun and creative ways to throw parties without much expense. We ended the night with everyone sharing and tasting their favorite recipe under $15. It was a success and everyone seemed to have a great time. Up next.... super craft activity. I plan to be in labor.

you know, my ward in orange county was kind of the same way. are there a lot of older people in your ward? we found that young people couldn't afford to buy into the area, so the ward was full of people who had bought their houses in the 70's, etc., when prices weren't astronomically high.
